The first week of school is over and most everyone is settling in—slowly, but surely. It was a week of first classes, first games, first homework assignments, and first impressions. As a first-time President of the Union, I am delighted with my first impression of our clubs and organizations.
The week concluded with the annual Activities Fair. Just imagine the Field House packed with over 150 organizations, two performance areas, and hundreds of curious students wandering about trying to decide if they should join the Outing Club, the Gaming Club, Sheer Idiocy, or any of the other organizations present. If you were there, then you witnessed this wonderful craziness first hand.
The Activities Fair marked yet another first, as it represents the beginning of many Union events to take place this year. Please, keep your eye out for other upcoming events posted in the Union and around campus including the Classical Concert series, Mother’s Concert series, the Speakers Forum, and many other performances, games, and activities. If you have been to the Activities Fair, met clubs, wandered about the campus, and still have not found anything that interests you, please do not worry. I believe that there is a place for everyone on this campus. There are also many greek organizations, interdepartmental organizations, national collegiate organizations, and sports teams. If all else fails, then start your own organization! That is the beauty of RPI. All you need is the determination to make it happen. Just send me e-mail at pu@rpi.edu and I will do what I can to help you get started.
Next week also marks the first Executive Board meeting, as we will have our orientation, during the first meeting this weekend. Our weekend is packed with team building, goal setting, and learning as much as we can. I look forward to informing you of those goals as soon as we collectively determine them. It is my belief that you will see some great things from the board this year. They all demonstrated a great commitment to their clubs during the Activity Fair, and I am looking forward to a great year with them.
