The men’s lacrosse team’s UCAA winning streak was brought to an end on Friday when St. Lawrence scored six goals in the final six minutes of play en route to a 15-8 win. The Red Hawks rebounded to drop Clarkson 18-12 on Saturday.

The Saints took an early lead when Josh Feine took a pass from Jeff Overman and put one past Goalie Matt Moog. SLU would go up 2-0 when Tom Loveless sent one into the lower-right corner of the net.

The Red Hawks answered with less than a minute left in the first quarter on a goal by Midfielder Peter Staunton. RPI then knotted the score early into the second quarter as Attacker Tom Terzulli fed Attacker Nick Childs. Attacker Ben Terzulli put the Red Hawks up when he put one over the top of Clarkson goalie Stephen Salotti.

SLU would come back to tie the score about two minutes later before Rookie Attacker Lucas Ruglis connected on consecutive scores. The scores came within thirty seconds of each other and gave RPI the lead 5-3.

Much to the chagrin of the Red Hawks, the Saints responded in fine form as they reeled off 4 consecutive scores to close out the half. This made the count 7-5 SLU at halftime.

The third quarter was much slower as the two teams each scored a single goal. The Saints struck first before Ruglis answered once again. Following his score in the third, Ruglis netted another to open the fourth and cut the St. Lawrence lead, 8-7. The Saints’ Rob Russell would score to widen the gap before Midfielder Pat Blount responded for RPI. Unfortunately, that would be the last time the Red Hawks would score.

The Saints went on to put 6 goals on the board the rest of the way to make the final 15-8.

In addition to Ruglis’ 4 goals, Tom Terzulli finished with three assists. Ben Terzulli picked up an assist in addition to his goal.

The loss means that the Red Hawks must win the remainder of their games to have a shot at the NCAA tournament.

With that in mind the Red Hawks took on Clarkson on Saturday.

After allowing the Golden Knights to take an early 1-0 lead, RPI recovered to go up 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Red Hawks put 6 more goals on the board to take a 10-6 lead at the half.

In the third, the Red Hawks took control of the contest as they went up 15-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

The win ups the Red Hawks’ record to 6-3, but with Friday’s loss, the team dropped to No. 14 in the national rankings.

The Red Hawks will play their final UCAA game of the season Saturday night at 7 pm when they take on Hamilton.
