The Red Hawks overcame an early deficit to derail the Brewers of Vassar last Wednesday, 9-3, before falling to No. 16 Nazareth 16-6 on Saturday.

In the first game, the Brewers jumped out in front as Rashida Truesdale netted her 14th goal of the season. Midfielder Kim Yates responded with the first of her 4 goals, and then Attacker Erin Crocker put the Red Hawks up 2-1 on a pass from Co-Captain Julia Geer.

Following Crocker’s goal, Co-Captain Dena Mielke would fire 1 home before assisting Crocker on another. Yates added a score with just 41 seconds left in the half to give RPI a 5-2 edge.

The Red Hawks would put 4 more on the board as Yates netted 2 more, Mielke added her second, and Geer picked up a goal to go with her assist.

The win raised the Red Hawks’ record to 5-1 (3-1 in the UCAA).

On Saturday, RPI journeyed to Rochester to take on Nazareth, only to suffer a tough 16-6 drubbing. Geer and Mielke each had 2 goals, while Yates and Roy both connected for 1.

This weekend will be big for the Red Hawks as they will take on both Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Rensselaer needs a pair of wins to position themselves for a post-season bid. These two are especially big as matches with two top-10 teams—Hamilton and William Smith—loom in the near future. The Red Hawks need to secure what wins they can before going up against the powerhouses.
