Ariana Twitchell
President of the Union

I think it is finally safe to say that it is spring here! I hope that everyone had a chance to put their books down, step away from their computers, and get outside this weekend. It is rare that we have beautiful, sunny days in Troy; therefore, enjoy them while they are here.

So, we are down to those few remaining days of the semester, and we still have more than enough work to do in those few days. I want to wish everyone the very best luck with your work during your last week or two on campus. I would like to remind you that breaks are necessary and sleep really does help. With this in mind, I want to offer some of my favorite forms of study breaks that may help you get through this end of the semester craze!

The Mueller Center can be a great place to relax, re-energize, socialize, and de-stress. If that is not your thing, try bowling a string or two with your friends in the Union, or grabbing an ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s. Perhaps catching a nap in your room or watching your favorite show at dinner may help avert your attention for a few minutes. If this weather keeps up, there are a few spots on campus that are ideal for frisbee or tossing the football around. Movies are always another of my favorites, with many local video stores—and don’t forget about UPAC movies in the DCC. I am sure that by now you all have your own methods of relaxation, but please do not forget to take a break from time to time.

If you are returning to this campus next year, I would like to inform you of the many activities that you could become involved in. Did you know that we have over 100 active clubs and organizations on this campus? For more information and details, look into the Union website: http://www.union.rpi.edu/.

As the new PU, I also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know we are actively looking for new Union Executive Board members. As a member of the E-Board, you would have the opportunity to work with an $8 million dollar budget. This is the time of the year when E-Board positions are appointed, and if you are interested, please contact me at twitca@rpi.edu.

If you are wondering what the Union E-Board does, it assumes responsibility for the Union budget process, assists program development, and provides guidance for club operations. We need people who are dedicated to the betterment of our student body. This means being an open-minded, dependable, proactive student who is a good listener and possesses strong communication skills. If you are a team player looking to develop leadership skills, this would be a great opportunity for you to work with other students to continue to make Rensselaer a better place!
