The Interfraternity Council continues to prepare for the end of the semester. Changes to next semester’s rush policy are being finalized and will be put to a vote shortly. Plans are also being made for rush events as well as seminars.

The last IFC meeting opened with President Jesse Barr ’10 addressing the assembly. Barr reported on the information he had gathered from his meeting with the director of the Curtis R. Priem Center for Experimental Media and Performing Arts, Johannes Goebel. Barr explained how he received insight into how best to utilize different venues on campus for events.

After Barr, the Executive Vice President Michael Lind ’10 commented on the past semester, saying, “I like the progress we have made and feel confident with the direction that the greek community is headed.”

Vice President of Recruitment Demetri Karanikos ’11 announced that a meeting to discuss and review the current changes would be held Monday, April 27. The changes will be put to a vote next week. Finally, new ideas for rush week events were discussed, such as a chalk mural in front of Russell Sage Dining Hall.

Next, Vice President of Social Ryan Koehler ’11 was unable to attend and Barr reported in his place. He announced that Greek Week t-shirts were available to be picked up and that the greek movie night would be rescheduled with specifics to be announced shortly.

Vice President of Philanthropy Ken Hutchison ’11 reminded delegates of upcoming community service events, such as Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, a walk to benefit a sexual assault and crime victim’s assistance in Rensselaer County, would be held Sunday, April 25 at Samaritan Hospital’s Lally Pavillion with awards for the best costume.

Afterward, Vice President of Risk Management Drew Fineberg ’11 announced he was working on plans for an alcohol awareness and risk management seminar next semester. Vice President of Public Relations Patrick McAndrews ’12 then mentioned he has started a Flickr account for IFC photos, and requested houses submit photos from Greek Week, Relay For Life, Greek Parade, and major house events.

After McAndrews, Greek Senator Kevin Vanslyke ’11 reported on the Senate’s recent actions. He mentioned an approval for $500 to be donated to the Face the Waste event, new member appointments, and finally there was a discussion of the off-campus RAD.

The representative from the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Richard Morris ’09 was unable to attend the meeting; in his place Barr announced that awards of excellence would be given on Saturday, April 25 in the Heffner Alumni House in acknowledgement of achievements from 5 Star reviews. He also asked once more for statistics on bids.

The meeting concluded with nominations for next semester’s vice president of public relations. McAndrews will be spending next semester abroad and someone will need to take his place. Next week, delegates will vote on the nominees. Finally, Alpha Phi Alpha announced its 77 hours of homelessness, in which several brothers would live outside the Union for 77 hours and seek donations, with proceeds going to St. Joseph’s House.
