RPI, it’s time to start your Relay For Life team! The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of RPI is a unique event that brings together members of our campus community for one night each April. Together, we celebrate cancer survivors, remember those we’ve lost to the disease, and fight back against it. The true fun of the Relay is the teams.
The 2009 event already has 70 registered teams that have joined together to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and gather together the night of April 17. Currently, the largest team is also the team with the most funds raised: Navy ROTC has 39 members and has already raised $2,595! Teams like Pikes/Dalton & Wickiewicz, Phi Kappa Theta Skilodge, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and The Unholy Alliance have all raised over $1,000 for their team. Together, we have raised over $25,000 and registered more than 540 participants!
Teams of all sizes and affiliations are doing their part, and the American Cancer Society acknowledges these efforts. The “Team Fundraising Club” is a designation to recognize teams in which all members reach fundraising levels of $50–250. Teams who participate in our Lights, Camera, Relay movie theme by decorating their campsite or using their team’s theme for fundraising can win prizes for their efforts! Plus, individuals who “Strive For 25” are awarded raffle tickets for every $25 they raise or 25 e-mails they send through the online participant center. These tickets can be used to win a number of prizes—including an iPod Touch—on the night of Relay.
So why not find your own group to join in this fight? Round up your friends, pick a movie, and get registered at http://www.RelayForLife.org/RPI/. Much of the campus community is already abuzz with Relay activity. The Breast Savers are organizing a Spelling Bee on March 26 in DCC 324 at 7:30 pm.
