The Interfraternity Council meeting on February 18 began with President Jesse Barr ’10 noting that he has been receiving more e-mails from around campus with regards to different events, but doesn’t seem to have the support from the greek community to become more involved on campus.
After Barr, Executive Vice President Michael Lind ’10 mentioned that he had attended the greek Judicial Board selection. When applications for the J-Board are being accepted again, the information will be made available to houses. Additionally, Lind is currently processing information gathered by his committee.
After Lind, Vice President of Social Ryan Koehler ’11 confirmed that comedian Evan Wecksell will be performing during Greek Week on April 15. Additionally, the first IFC Movie Night was held last week; on Thursday, Animal House played in DCC 330, and there will be showing of Revenge of the Nerds at the same time this Thursday. Koehler also announced that attempts to bring Bo Burnham and Pink Floyd to campus for performances have been made.
Vice President of Risk Management Drew Fineberg ’11, spoke after Koehler. He supplied newer details regarding the CPR certification discussed at the last meeting, which will be available through the National Safety Council in conjunction with Public Safety. He also noted that certification will be $35 per person, and that in the event that a house can’t find the funds for such certification, RPI Ambulance offers free CPR classes.
Vice President of Philanthropy Ken Hutchinson ’11, was unable to attend and therefore in his place, Lind and Koehler briefly spoke about the topics Hutchinson intended to discuss. Lind mentioned that increased support for the Philanthropy committee would be greatly appreciated. Koehler then mentioned the Giving Circle will be hosting an informational meeting this Thursday in DCC 324 at 7 pm. The Giving Circle is a non-profit organization whose mission is “communities helping communities.”
Vice President of Recruitment, Demetri Karanikos ’11 announced that there has been a good response from brothers with regards to involvement in the Rush Interaction Committee. The committee plans to attempt to make IFC and general recruitments more efficient, and methods of doing so are still being discussed.
Unfortunately, the plans with the Panhellenic Council to create a joint Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond event have been cancelled. A motion was initiated to open discussions with the First-Year Experience about allowing Student Orientation advisors to speak about their specific house during orientation. The motion was tabled for further discussion later on.
Following Karanikos, greek senator Jonathan Babiec ’09 announced that students should be expecting a survey via e-mail, specifically focusing on services affected by layoffs.
Finally, Richard Morris ’09 reminded that delegates the 5-Star applications are due Friday. The 5-star system is a means for the administration to honor the achievements of houses. Finally, the Panhellenic Council representative reminded the assembly that pin day will be in two weeks. The event will occur at the beginning of every month.
