Ruckus Network, the college-sponsored digital media content service, closed its doors on February 6. Users who enter the website of Ruckus see a message stating that the company’s services will not be provided anymore.
Ruckus was one of the Student Senate’s projects back in 2005, which provided students with a legal way to download music amidst the Recording Industry Association of America’s targeting of college campuses for music piracy. Ruckus content can only be played until its renew date, at which point students will no longer be able to access any of their music.
Ruckus was originally subscribed to by individual schools, but then chose to give up subscription fees and went for contracts with ad agencies and sponsorships from colleges and universities in 2006, giving students free access to the website’s content.
