Patrick McAndrews
Interfraternity Council Vice President for Public Relations

Welcome to the 2009 Inter-fraternity Council. This year promises to uphold the established integrity of the greek system, as well as further the unity of our houses and members.

The 2009 IFC Cabinet is lead by Jesse Barr ’10 of the Rensselaer Society of Engineers and Michael Lind ’10 of Pi Lambda Phi, president and executive vice president, respectively. Their goals include modernizing the IFC constitution and bylaws, creating more leadership opportunities within the IFC, getting more greeks involved, and making involved greeks more empowered.

With this team leading the IFC, we can be confident that 2009 will be an outstanding year in spite of recent circumstances; the fact that the greek dean was one of the many staff members laid off in December is regrettable. Yet, we need to move forward. The IFC will need all the help it can get from its members. This means your brothers and houses need to invest yourselves into this organization in order to be successful this year and in the future. It is on all of our shoulders to make sure that we continue to improve our organizations.

There are many opportunities to become involved with the IFC. We have meetings every Wednesday at 10 pm in DCC 337. We are currently organizing committees, including working on the constitution and helping to write and edit articles such as these. If you are interested in getting involved, e-mail ifc.rpi.president@gmail.com. By staying or getting involved, you help greek life and can have fun while you’re doing it.

You will work with greeks who have already stepped up, including the cabinet members. The vice president of social is Ryan Koehler ’11 of Phi Kappa Theta. Demetri Karanikos ’11 of Tau Epsilon Phi is the vice president of recruitment. Our new treasurer is Charles Sheide ’11 of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Patrick McAndrews ’12 of Delta Phi is the vice president of public relations. Our secretary is Greg Burt ’10 of Lambda Chi Alpha. Drew Fineberg ’11 is this year’s vice president of risk management from Phi Kappa Theta. Ken Hutchison ’10 of Pi Kappa Phi is our vice president of philanthropy.

The IFC’s Spring Rush was kicked off with Greek Women’s Hockey Night. Expect exciting events this week to introduce prospective members to the different houses on campus. We hope to also see you at future events, including Greek Week!
