Lucas Johnson
President of the Union

Well here it is, the last time you will have the chance to get profound insight from the 112th President of the Union. This week isn’t so much insight, but more a look into the life of a PU. More specifically, the people who affect the PU on a regular basis. Being that this is my last article I want to take this time to thank the people who have helped me over the past year.

We begin ... at the beginning. I know that I have thanked these people before, but I have a new appreciation for what they really did for me now that I have gone through what I have in the past year. A big thanks to the members of Apollo 2000, especially Tara, Elaine, Jenn, and most importantly Katie. I really couldn’t have done it without you!

I want to thank Dr. Jackson, Eddie Knowles, Ginny Gregg, Eileen McLoughlin, and Kerry Quinn for their guidance and patience. Your feedback and open ears have helped us deal with many things this past year. I thank each of you very much.

And now onto the people that have helped me the most this past year, the Union Administration Office staff. In no particular order ... First, I want to thank the Student Activities Resources Persons. These SARPs are the permanent lifeblood of the Union clubs and activities. They are all tremendously dedicated to what they do and love to help us all out. Thank you to Cynthia, Cameron and Steve. If there is anyone that keeps things in order around the office, it’s Ellen Young. I have joked all year that I would put her up against any secretary on campus, and she would show them up. Ellen, thank you so much for everything—you truly are a superstar!

Just to the side of Ellen is a staff person whom we share with the Archer Center, but couldn’t do much without. Holly is always there to pick up anything that needs doing and to add even more. Thank you Holly; you are too good to me. In between these two lovely ladies is another one that always makes me laugh. Cathy, whether you are making fun of my blue Jelly Bellys or running over for happy hour food, you bring great enthusiasm to everything you do. Thanks for everything!

Our newcomer to the group did so much to come up to speed quickly and make things for everyone better. Jean, your smile and "optimism" are always uplifting. Thanks for everything, even knowing the same room number the multiple times I have asked you!

The final hero in this group is the person who keeps me in line more than anyone. She is a mom away from home and, more importantly, a good friend. Martha, from your "boss," to my boss, thank you so much for everything this past year. You have kept me sane and smiling.

This leaves two people I need to thank. First is the guy who started off with me a year ago. I know it has been an interesting year for us, Joe, and I am glad to have gotten to know you like I have. I can’t thank you enough for everything in August and beyond. I wish you the best.

Finally, the man who has become a mentor and friend to me: Rick Hartt. You have kept me focused on the important things and showed me so much about myself and how to be better at almost everything. Thank you doesn’t say enough, but I know no other way to put it. So, thank you.
