Greetings from the Interfraternity Council! As this semester draws to a close, our outgoing Executive Board would like to thank the Rensselaer community for a positive and productive year.

This past year, the IFC has restructured many old programs whose growth and progress we hope will continue well into the future. Last year’s Spring semester’s greek weekend, co-sponsored by the Panhellenic Council, was a huge success, and the best that it has been in years. The same can be said for Greek Hockey Night, with a record-breaking greek attendance. Our Council-sponsored recruitment week was revolutionized by adding three block parties to gain better exposure to many in the greek community.

Coupled with our reorganization of many great events was the establishment of new programs and relationships we hope to continue nurturing well into the future. These relationships with cabinet members and many other esteemed campus administrators have been established and broadened.

While external relationships are an integral part of this council’s success, our internal progress has been the most important. A new officer transition period was established, as well as an alumni leadership initiative to strengthen the council as it moves between its members to better serve the greek community. Our treasurer, Alex Marcus ’09, successfully guided us through financial hardship caused by past mistakes and set up the next E-Board in a strong financial position. Our presidents, Nicky Hajal ’09 and Brian Keating ’10, established strong relationships within the current E-Board to strengthen the effectiveness of the council. Our vice presidents, Jesse Barr ’10 and Keating (earlier this year) built positive relations with many houses on campus in order to progress toward a more unified greek community through its leaders. Our social and recruitment chairs, Brian McDermott ’10 and Steve Lazos ’09, both did amazing things within their committees to help make our events this year more successful than ever. Lis Gallant ’09, our Public Relations director, helped establish a new visual identity for the IFC and has been working with Public Relations Director-elect Patrick McAndrews ’11 in order to ensure a smooth transition. Richard Tenure ’09 has completely revolutionized our risk management system through his own dedication and the dedication of his committee members.

The 2008 Interfraternity Council would like to thank all those who came out and supported our events, our brothers, and our community. We look forward to the progress from our next council and encourage you to continue with them the support that you have shown us.
