Tell me what’s happening, RPI

Now that the semester is back in full swing, campus events are beginning to surface every week. There are plays, comedy shows, concerts, and cultural celebrations to look out for in the near future. Even the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center will soon open its doors and host its own onslaught of entertainment.

But here’s the problem: What events are happening on campus? And which of the organizations even want their events covered? Sure, some have numerous flyers posted around campus; a few actually send me periodic e-mails about their events so as to add them to prospective article leads for the Features section of The Poly. Unfortunately, sometimes I only find out about other events last-minute, which causes a slight raise of the eyebrows and a dismissal from most of the writers who have already made plans that day. Which is a shame; the event might have been fun.

What I’m trying to say is that yeah, I do my best hunting these events down so as to keep my section from floundering due to lack of entertainment content, but I shouldn’t have to literally stalk each campus organization just to see if there’s some rather large event happening in the next week or two. Help me out here, drop me a line about an event of yours that you want to have covered, and instead of worrying about what events I need to find, I can just focus more of my anxiety on looking for writers to cover said events.

Yes, I’m well aware people have done this; in fact, I really thank those who’ve sent me e-mails or posted flyers, it really does help. It really doesn’t hurt to let the rest of you guys know that if you really want some press coverage of an event, please send me an e-mail at features@poly.rpi.edu. Who knows, you might actually see more coverage of the various low-profile events happening on campus.
