Local primaries were held yesterday, including those for the 21st Congressional District, the 43rd State Senate, and 106th State Assembly for Rensselaer County.

In the race for the 21st Congressional District, Paul Tonko won the nomination for the Democratic Party after his opponents Tracey Brooks, Darius Shahinfar, Phil Steck, and Joseph Sullivan conceded the race. For the Republican race, James Buhrmaster overwhelmingly won the nomination over Steve Vasquez. The winner in November will succeed retiring U.S. Representative Michael McNulty, D-Green Island, representing Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, and Saratoga counties.

The winner of the 43rd Senate, representing Rensselaer and Saratoga counties, will be replacing Republican Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, who retired earlier this year. Michael Russo won in the Democratic primary over Brian Premo, while Roy McDonald crushed Ray Seney in the Republican primary.

For the 112th State Assemby, Tony Jordan also won by a wide margin over Christopher Laing in the Republican race. Jordan will face Democrat Ian McGaughey in November to represent Washington, Saratoga, and Rensselaer counties.
