It’s almost that time of the year again, but this time it’s bigger and better. The former three days full of fun, bonding, and greek awareness known as Greek Weekend have been upgraded to a five day event—Rensselaer Greek Week. Never before has RPI experienced an event strictly geared towards this much fraternity and sorority spirit and pride.
The week commences on April 15 from 6-8 pm on Sunset Terrace, located near the houses of Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Theta, and Delta Tau Delta. This event, the Sunset Terrace Greek Block Party, is open to all greeks and supporters and is a great way to kick off the week and spend time with other RPI greeks. Some features of the Block Party include a mouth-watering pig roast, outdoor volleyball, and great live music. However, this is only the beginning!
During day two, April 16, make sure to stop by the Rensselaer Union between 10 am and 2 pm. Between these hours is when greeks should be sure to sign in and show support for their houses by wearing a set of letters. The houses with the top percentage of brothers or sisters that sign in get rewarded at the end of the week. Also, make sure to grab a custom made Greek Week t-shirt and nominate a brother or sister for the RPI Greek God and Goddess competition.
This first annual competition takes place on Thursday from 7-9 pm in Sage 3303. The finalists from the nomination the day before will compete in a Mr. and Ms. RPI-esque competition, in which esteemed judges will vote on the strongest “god” and “goddess” on the RPI campus. This is definitely not an occasion to be missed, as it’s sure to result in major laughs and greek rivalry at its finest.
Friday, April 18 is the day of the annual Greek Barbeque. Located at the Commons Quad from 5:30-8:30 pm, this is not your regular barbeque! Be ready for tasty free food, a dunk tank, and a cook-off contest. Also, be sure to expect a pie-throwing contest, as well as loads of sports and music.
Greek Week concludes on Saturday the 19 with the much anticipated Greek Olympics. This event takes place at the Anderson Field between the hours of 1-5 pm and showcases the best of the best in RPI greek life. In various events such as the six-legged race, human pyramid, tug-of-war, tricycle races, and powder puff football competitions, fraternities and sororities will compete against one another to take home the crowns. Some awesome awards will be given to the most successful houses at the end of the week.
So be sure to bring your spirit and pride, not only for your own house but for all RPI greeks! This week is a great week to take part in and the Rensselaer IFC and Panhellenic Association strongly urge each house to get involved.
