After dropping two games earlier this month, the men’s lacrosse team is back on track with their solid 10-4 win over Hamilton last Saturday on Harkness Field for Senior Day. The Red Hawks now rise to an impressive 10-2 overall while maintaining a 3-1 record in the league as it clinched a playoff berth. The Continentals dropped to 3-9, 0-4 in the league.

The Liberty League took note of the team’s success and named junior PJ McComb and senior Ryan Michels as Offensive and Defensive Performers of the Week.

For his fourth week of the season recognized by the league, McComb had two unassisted goals and five assists during the weekend’s game in addition to his three ground balls. One of his assists resulted in the game-winner. The attacker had seven shots, four of which were on goal. With 17 goals and 41 assists for 58 points on the season, he leads the team. He also leads the nation in assists and is in the top ten for points with 4.83 per game.

Michels’ second week in a row of recognition by the Liberty League is highlighted by his first win. His appearance on the list last week was due to his 21 saves in 81:25 in net against nationally-ranked foes. In goal, Michels made nine saves, six of which were in the first half for a save percentage of .692. He had a team-leading nine ground balls in the win.

The first quarter ended with the teams locked at one before the Red Hawks opened it up with four consecutive goals after a Hamilton goal opened up the quarter and gave them a 2-1 lead.

The second half started off with the Red Hawks jumping out to a 5-2 lead and again putting up four unanswered goals. McComb led the way to the 9-2 lead with his goal and three assists. Two fourth-quarter goals by the Continentals couldn’t save the day thanks to a late goal by junior Alex MacDiarmid, which brought the final score to 10-4 for the Red Hawks. MacDiarmid had two goals and an assist in the game. Junior Briggs Thompson also had a multi-goal game.

The team heads off to key games against Skidmore at 4 pm on Wednesday, and Clarkson at 1 pm on Saturday.
