Allison Geer and Meghan Hart-man were named the UCAA Co-Swimming Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 5. The duo won the honor for their part in leading RPI to several victories in a dual meet with Hamilton.
Geer, who earned the award for the second consecutive week qualified for the NCAA meet by meeting the "B" standards with a time of 24.63 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.71. Her time in the latter event also set a new school record.
Hartman made her B-cut in the 400-yard individual medley with 4:40.45, setting a school record. She also won the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:09.94.
The two also contributed to relay wins in the 200-yard medley (1:55.39) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.19).
Hartman went on to win the honor again two weeks later. Hartman was named Swimmer of the Meet at the New York State Swimming and Diving Championships. During the event she helped to lead RPI to victory in five different events and qualified for the NCAAs in two more events with an "A" standard and several more B-cuts. The A-cut came in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.58) while B-cuts were in the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.41), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.18), and the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:37.05).
The UCAA also announced the UCAA All-Academic team and eight members of the team made it. These included Maureen Desi (CSYS), Laurie Dubois (BIOL), Allison Geer (MGMT), Jessica Henley (CHEM), Emily O’Connor (CSYS/CSCI), Mary "Cater" Ortolano (BMED), Laura Pisterzi (CHEG), and Elizabeth Zinser (ELEC).
Student athletes had to be a major contributor to the team and have a 3.2 GPA to be eligible for the All-Academic team.
