Elections for the new Executive Committee of WRPI took place this past Sunday, bringing in a new group of students to help fix the schism among members of the station.

The Rules and Elections Committee took control over counting the votes at the request of President of the Union, James Fisher ’07, so as to ensure the elections process would occur without problems.

Trent Gillaspie ’08 was elected as the new President of WPRI, promising to help bring the station closer together. “I plan to help unite the station towards a common goal and strategy that the new E-Comm will help to layout with the input of the station members,” he said.

Gino D’Addario ’08 will continue to serve as Station Manager, and Charlie Piazza ’08 will take over as Chief Engineer for the station. Josh Gilbert ’09 was elected to Public Relations Director and lastly, Emelie Hegarby ’09 was elected as the Member-at-Large of the station.

The new Program Director will be Joe Goullaud ’08. In his new position as Program Director, Goullaud stated he hopes “to increase the overall production quality of the station’s shows through new training classes and improving some of the current ones.”

He also plans to re-evaluate the state of how appealing each program is to the student body, and find ways to increase interest if necessary.

The new members of the E-Comm hope to be able to work together to ameliorate all the disagreements occurring within the station, particularly the Executive Board’s new proposal.

Goullaud stated, “I fully support the document being submitted. I was glad to see the Executive Committee take polls into account when revising the document. I believe many of the changes to the document were great refinements to its prior form.”

The E-Board has received the proposal submitted by the WRPI E-Comm, and members of the E-Comm were supposed to have presented the proposal to the E-Board Tuesday for their review. Several members of the new E-Comm failed to come to the meeting, however, and little discussion could therefore take place on the issue.

The E-Board has decided to wait a week for members to review the document before voting on it in a closed session. “The new E-Board policies can help fulfill some of our goals, but as always, we need to keep the entire WRPI membership in mind, as well as our current listenership, and where we want things to be one, five, and ten years down the road,” Gillaspie said.

The new E-Comm will allow for a fresh perspective on the various issues at hand, and is very capable of handling the problems. Gillaspie said, “I feel very confident in our performance and upholding our responsibilities for WRPI.”
