Public Safety expresses gratitude for assistance

Posted 02-28-2001 at 10:31AM

To the Editor:

Not often does the campus community hear about the exemplary effort and behavior of our students in preventing a criminal act. Such an instance occurred on February 13 in the Colvin Circle area of campus. Through the observations of students and the immediate reporting to Public Safety, a burglary in progress was terminated.

The two suspects responsible were apprehended by Public Safety as a direct result of information and assistance received by students. We would like to commend and thank the students for their actions. Through their efforts, our community was made a bit safer for everyone.

Crime can occur in an instant. It is often traumatic for those involved. The importance of prompt reporting is paramount to a successful apprehension and prosecution.

The officers that were involved that night especially wish to thank the students for their efforts and cooperation. The Community Policing Team wishes to say "Thanks!"

As a note ... our officers came forth with the idea of thanking the students involved. We will be doing so personally, but we thought this would be a positive statement for the entire community, so thanks again.
