UPAC Comedy brought musical comedian Rob Paravonian to campus this past Saturday. Paravonian put on a great show in the McNeil Room of the Union to a good-sized crowd who enjoyed every minute. Paravonian wasn’t just an ordinary comedian; he demonstrated his skill with the guitar for a new delivery, keeping everyone tapping their feet as they laughed and applauded. Some of his jokes consisted of talking about other drivers on the road getting offended when he would try to pass them because of the fact that his car is in sorry condition, and jesting about how to make the most money while playing music in the subways. He went on to talk about songwriters forgetting the lyrics that they already wrote, such as in the theme song of the TV show “Friends,” by the Rembrandts—where he conveniently pointed out that the lines “no one ever told you life was gonna be this way” and the line “your mother warned you there’s be days like these” were only separated by a few lines, something that should at least be remembered. Right now you are probably kicking yourself about missing Paravonian’s show, but his website, http:/www.robprocks.com/, has some clips you can check out.

UPAC Comedy was the club in charge of bringing Paravonian to campus. The club consists of Co-Chairmen Pat Fallon ’08 and Steve Coonradt ’08, and about 15 regular members. UPAC Comedy is responsible for choosing and scheduling comedians, hypnotists, and magicians to come to RPI throughout the school year. It gets funding from the Union to hire four or five performers each semester. Most of the shows, which are free, take place in the McNeil Room of the Union, but are occasionally in West Hall.

In the past, there have only been a few members in the club who simply picked out a few stand-up comedians and put on the shows. However, this year UPAC Comedy is looking to boost membership and involvement in the club. Its aim is to let more and more group members actually choose which performers we bring to campus, travel as a group to local comedy clubs in the Albany area, and even just watch a funny movie once in a while. It is always looking for new members to join the club. If you happen to be interested, send an email to Coonradt at

coonrs@rpi.edu, or to Fallon at fallop@rpi.edu. The club is free to join and fun to be a part of. Make sure to keep an eye out for the next show, which will be stand-up comedian Lee Camp at 8 pm in the McNeil Room on December 1.
