If you have to chill, do it with Bruno Manifesto’s new compilation entitled Café Del Mar—Volume 7. This album was created with Spain’s Ibiza resort island, the world’s number one paradise, in mind. Ibiza was built to capture the wonder of the sun setting below the Mediterranean Sea, and so was this CD. It is an entrancing collection of electronica beats and rhythms that will completely submerge you in a sea of relaxation. Café Del Mar—Volume 7 has tracks from some of today’s biggest artists and some of Europe’s hottest groups. This album is overflowing with talented performances from stars such as Moby, Bent, and Bush.

I was driving home last Friday afternoon and I popped this disc into my car’s CD player. I was surprised with this album’s diversity. Usually when you put all of these electronic beats on one album, it starts to sound more like a soundtrack for a ’70s adult flick. This CD does a great job of soothing and chilling you out, without provoking nightmares about sweaty dudes with Afros.

The best hit on this compilation is by Bedrock. It is called "Beautiful Strange." It has a trippy beginning and is laced with a sweet female voice. Then the song dives into an ocean of electronic and techno sounds. It takes about half a minute for the song to develop, but once it does it is hard to not be taken under by it.

You will probably download this album off of Napster, rather than purchasing it, but either way you will see what I am talking about. The entire collection fully captures an amazing sunset on the beach at Café Del Mar on the island of Ibiza. Each song takes your mind on a journey through this tropical island paradise and leaves you wondering why you are tirelessly working at Rensselaer instead of sipping piña coladas on this Spanish isle of wonderment.

This CD is one of a collection of discs produced by a number of DJs originating at Café Del Mar. There are six more before this one, compiled by José Padilla. I highly recommend that you at least give one of these a try. I promise that you will not be disappointed by his skills. Café Del Mar—Volume 8 is due to hit the music industry’s shelves sometime this summer. So pick up a volume and just … chill.
