Troy High School finds itself on the state’s list of schools needing improvement for the second year in a row. The list is released every year by the state education department in partial fulfillment of the requirements set forth by the No Child Left Behind Act. It is meant as a public indication of which schools cannot meet state and national guidelines. It outlines several levels of delinquency and consequences, as well as steps that concerned parents and guardians can take to help their children in such schools.
One notable aspect of the system is that it takes two years to be removed from the list once a school has been marked as needing improvement. This is the case for Troy High, according to Principal John Carmello. He said that the school has met all of its goals, and believed that it will be off the list next year, assuming the same level of improvement is maintained.
