After concluding a very busy semester, many alumni and students worked eagerly over the summer months in hopes of reaching a compromise with the administration on the greek life initiatives that were presented at the close of last semester. Several ideas were generated and will hopefully be taken into consideration once both the administration and alumni/students groups are able to meet more often throughout the year. As the semester continues to progress, we will continue to keep you informed.

For freshmen that may not know, the Rush period is roughly a month-long event giving freshmen the opportunity to meet a great composite of the Institute. The greek community is a diverse group of individuals who choose to affiliate themselves with others who share common interests, ideals, and a longing to be a part of a brother or sisterhood. Contrary to popular belief, you’re not buying your friends. You will have already become friends with them long before you wanted to join, and the opportunities that greek chapters provide are priceless, endless, and well worth it.

This summer, several members from every fraternity and sorority house planned a wide variety of events in preparation for the recruitment period here at Rensselaer with the hopes of attracting many prospective members. You may have already noticed in the Commons Dining Hall that there are greeks there to help you with any questions you may have concerning Rush. There are also large posters placed around main areas of campus, such as the DCC, Union, Commons and other places on Freshman Hill. This Saturday at 7 pm, there will be a greek Battle of the Bands in the McNeil Room of the Union. Prizes will be raffled off throughout the course of the evening. We invite you to come out for a great time and get to know us better.
