Rory Arrenondo
Interfraternity Council Vice President for Public Relations

This past Saturday was the 14th Annual Awards of Excellence. Sponsored by Dean Of Students Office and the Office of Greek Life, it is meant to award and recognize those fraternities and sororities who exemplify and meet standards of excellence. The award for Community Service went to the Rensselaer Society of Engineers. Pi Lambda Phi was recognized for House Beautification and was honored with the IFC Athletic Award. Sigma Alpha Epsilon received awards for Alumni Relations and IFC Participation. Lambda Chi Alpha received recognition for Chapter Management, IFC Recruitment, New Member Education, and University Relations. The sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta were recognized for Panhel Participation, Social Responsibility, and Panhel Recruitment, and were given the Louis Graham Athletic award and the President’s Award for Overall Excellence, presented by Dr. Jackson.

Certain individuals were also recognized for their dedication to greek life here at Rensselaer. The Greek Woman of the Year is Anna Kate Murtagh ’07 of Pi Beta Phi and the Greek Man of the Year is Rahul Parwani ’06 of Phi Gamma Delta. Michaeline Becker ’06 of Alpha Gamma Delta was the recipient of the Jessie K. Fortier Memorial Award.

These organizations and individuals are of course not the only ones that should be recognized; but also every other fraternity and sorority at Rensselaer deserves credit. I’ve said it many times, and I’m sure you’ve heard it many times. Greek life here is a strong force to be reckoned with. We are becoming the model system for others to follow. We should continue to do all the good that is done in the community and at Rensselaer. Through leadership, delivery and execution, we will continue to have over another 142 years of greek life at Rensselaer.
