Before break let out, members of the IFC and Panhellenic executive boards met with Dr. Jackson and DOSO administrators. We all came together to discuss the current status of what greeks at Rensselaer have been doing the past school year and what ways we can help make the relationship between the administration and the greeks an even better one.
With a long list of points and topics to cover from the past year, there was a lot that had to be said by the IFC and Panhel. Members from the two executive boards highlighted areas of success within the councils that helped promote Rensselaer and the surrounding community in a better light. From the upcoming Relay for Life to the Greek Hockey Night earlier this year to garnered awards for how our councils operate, we have been strengthening our greek system for a better and brighter future. We also noted areas that we needed to work on and that the administration could help us out in. One key area was recruitment. Based on what they see and hear around the nation, freshmen come here with that same mindset about Rensselaer’s greek life. But that is just not the case. Greeks here, with the help of the administration, have to work harder in order to show that greek life at Rensselaer is different from the stereotypes.
Dr. Jackson spoke of how greeks can help to better relate to the Undergraduate Plan and what it asks of Rensselaer students. Providing for us some broad and long-term goals, we were asked to utilize the tools and plenty of options that being greek provides for us through learning and leadership. Essentially, through our actions past and future, there has to be an overall understanding of where Rensselaer wants us to go in the future.
