Interfraternity Council Maintain the Unity
Posted 02-17-2006 at 9:38AM
Rory Arrenondo Interfraternity Council Vice President for Public Relations February 4th was the first ever Greek Night at the hockey game against Union. There were a total of 530 Greek tickets purchased, not including season ticket holders. Everybody from Rensselaer students to alumni and Greeks from Union showed up with pride. The success of the first-time event shows promises for continuing it for years to come. I hope that I will have the ability to come back in 20 years for this event and see how many more Greeks there are at Rensselaer.
Two weekends ago, Dean of Students Office held the annual Greek Leaders Retreat. All IFC and Panhel executive board members, chapter presidents, rush chairmen, and DOSO administrators were in attendance to discuss a variety of topics for the upcoming calendar year. From discussing what leadership qualities one should possess, to what core values we each believe in and how to harness a better rush during the school year, there were a lot of noble statements and ideas expressed. Having this retreat was also a great way to show that you are not alone in problems that you may have. There are others who may struggle in maintaining chapter numbers or keeping good relations with Rensselaer, and that feel shutout. One of the main facets of the retreat is for everybody to come together and discuss the problems that they may be having and how they can be combated and turned into successes. Ideas are thrown left and right, and we are more than willing to help in times of struggle. I hope that people in attendance at the retreat are taking advantage of what was discussed and not just letting it go by the wayside. Greek life here is strong, and it is our job to make sure that it continues to be strong.
