After spending about two hours trying to find a place to review for this week, my roommate said for the millionth time this year that I should do a review of Bombers Burrito Bar. Realizing that I could really go for a burrito that was not from Taco Bell, I finally agreed to try it.

Bombers Burrito Bar is on Lark Street in downtown Albany. Take I-787 South to exit 4B and turn left onto Lark Street. You really cannot miss it, since there is a huge neon sign outside the building. Now, do not get any misconceptions here, Bombers is not a nice sit-down place to get a meal. It is, in the truest form, a short order take-out establishment.

Upon entering, you see a huge chalkboard that has the entire menu written on it. There is a decent selection of burritos, tacos, and quesadillas to choose from. There are also a bunch of appetizers, ranging from wings in many flavors to things like chili cheese fries, nachos, and jalapeño poppers. There doesn’t seem to be a real theme for the décor; it’s just kind of haphazardly painted with mirrors covered in stickers hanging on the wall. As odd as this may sound, this style kind of works for Bombers. They are catering to the SUNY crowd, and it shows.

This is the way it works at Bombers: When you walk in, you place your order at the counter and pay for your food. Then, the cashier will take your name, and you wait for your food. There is a small area to the side for about 20-25 people, so you can take a seat while you wait if you plan on eating there. I decided to try the Tequila Wings and the “Red Stripe” Jerk Pork burrito. My roommate decided to get a Chicken and Gravy Burrito. Now, the thing to keep in mind is that no matter what you order, you will get all the food at the same time. Do not expect to order an appetizer to snack on while waiting for the burritos.

I have to say the food is great. The Tequila Wings were delicious. You get about a dozen wings for around six bucks. If you want more, you can get a platter of four dozen for $22. If you like wings, I would suggest giving the ones from Bombers a try. They have a myriad of flavors to choose from, and they are prepared when you order, so they come out piping hot.

To say that the burritos are large may be an understatement. These things are huge. It seriously feels like you are trying to eat a small football. The red stripe burrito that I ordered was filled with cheese, rice, Caribbean jerk pork, beans, lettuce, and salsa. It was amazing. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious. It was so much food that I was not able to finish the burrito. The Chicken and Gravy burrito consists of rice, beans, cheese, gravy & chicken, and lettuce. My roommate said that it was good but it was not amazing. Burritos cost either $5.50 or $6, so you really get a ton of food for the money.

I really enjoyed Bombers. The food was great. Luckily, it was not packed, so there was room to sit and eat, and it does not cost a ton for a lot of food. I feel confident saying Bombers has the best burritos I have found in the Capital Region. If you find yourself in Albany, make it a point to try them out. I think you will like it. Overall, I would give Bombers an 8 out of 10.
