Interfraternity Council Vice President for Public Relations

Before the fall semester was over, the IFC held its annual Philanthropy Banquet, recognizing fraternities that have given back to the community in an incomparable manner. The following awards were given, followed by the award winner: “Most money raised:” Lambda Chi Alpha; “Most hours per brother:” Rensselaer Society of Engineers; “Second Runner-Up for Outstanding Philanthropy:” Phi Kappa Theta; “First Runner-Up for Outstanding Philanthropy:” Sigma Alpha Epsilon; “Overall Outstanding Philanthropy:” Phi Gamma Delta. Overall, brothers of fraternities logged 7,603 hours of service and raised $9,410.63. With that, IFC and Panhel board members are currently helping to organize Relay for Life here at Rensselaer. This event is still in the planning stages, but we hope it will make a profound impact on the entire community.

Currently, we are in Spring Rush. I highly encourage anybody and everybody to participate in any of the events that are displayed around campus. Even if you don’t think you want to go greek, it never hurts to see for yourself what greeks can offer, and you might even be surprised by what we do offer. Just from the above paragraph, it’s obvious that there’s more to us than what people perceive.

This coming Saturday night at 7 pm, there will be a Greek Hockey Night at the Union game at the Field House. I strongly encourage all of the chapters to participate in this first, and hopefully not the last, event showcasing greek life at Rensselaer and the Capital District. This event is not only for undergrads, but also faculty and administration, alumni, greeks from Union, and greeks in the surrounding areas. What better way to spend your Saturday night than displaying your pride to the entire community and also supporting the Men’s Hockey team? Don’t forget to wear your letters.
