DEAN KAMEN LECTURES in the Biotech Auditorium Thursday as part of the Board of Trustees weekend. As the founder of the FIRST Robotics Competition (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), Kamen spoke about intentions of the program, its structure, and the crisis facing the country if more people do not see the value in an engineering curriculum and become involved in the field. The second half of his lecture was then spent describing the research and development his company is doing in trying to bring clean water and power to impoverished nations around the world. He believes that the traditional solutions have been misguided, and has proposed his own answer with a mobole 1 kW generator that runs off cow dung combined with a mobile a 550 Watt, 98 percent efficient system that will clean water under any conditions.
