The end of the fall semester at RPI brings about many changes on campus. Stress increases exponentially as project deadlines and final exams approach; the holiday season begins; and of course, the temperatures in Troy do not get any warmer.
At The Polytechnic, the end of the fall semester means a new editorial board is elected; as seniors scale back their involvement and let underclassmen pick up where they left off. Our elections were held last Sunday; there are several new faces on the board and a new Editor in Chief.
Unquestionably, with new people on the board, new ideas will surface and with time, you the readers will see some changes. In recent years, the new Editor in Chief typically solicits feedback from readers on what they think of the job The Poly is doing. I see no reason not to continue this, as this paper is the student body’s newspaper: We’re here for you and we want to know what you think.
Whatever feedback you have—the good, the bad, the ugly—please let us know. If you think there are stories, events, and opinions we should be covering and are not, or if there are topics that you think receive too much attention, send us your opinion. I can be reached at poly@rpi.edu and our section editors can be reached at the e-mail addresses listed in the staff box on the bottom-left of this page.
As always, if you want to write a letter to the editor to be published on any topic, including about The Poly, just send it to edop@poly.rpi.edu. Our policy on these letters can also be found in the staff box.
Since I enrolled here, I have been a member of The Poly. One constant is that we are always looking for new people who are interested in helping out. If you’re interested in writing, you might be interested in working for news, features, or sports. If you are more of a visual person, you might enjoy working on graphics or layout. For those interested in business, we have openings there as well. There are also positions for those who enjoy finding people’s mistakes, taking photographs, or just want to participate.
If you are interested in joining, or want some more information, please stop in the Poly office–Union 3418–on a Tuesday or contact one of us on staff.
On behalf of the Editorial Board, we wish you well on your finals and hope you have a happy and healthy winter break.
