Community Service is something that goes without saying for fraternity members here at RPI. This year to date, fraternities in RPI’s Interfraternity Council have logged thousands of man-hours in community service ranging from events such as Lambda Chi Alpha’s “Watermelon Bash” to Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s “Farkouh Field Day.” These events have brought students as well as administrators together toward the common goal of benefiting those less fortunate than we are.
On December 4, from 1-4 pm, the IFC will be hosting its annual Philanthropy Banquet at the Russell Sage Dining Hall. This end-of-year event is designed to award fraternities for their philanthropic work and community service. The IFC appreciates the hard work and dedication to service that is embodied in its member fraternities, and seeks to reward good work just as it seeks to reprimand for wrong doing. This event is one in which the hundreds of good deeds of RPI’s fraternities are brought forth, the times when dedication to services are recognized, and the moments where selflessness took priority over everything else are rewarded. The Philanthropy Banquet also serves to update members of RPI’s campus community, administration, and key players in Troy’s community that RPI’s IFC is constantly striving to achieve a model of excellence.
Along with awards being distributed to fraternities that made strong efforts in their philanthropy, a “Greek Service Man of the Year” award will be presented to one individual who has gone above and beyond the normal expectations of philanthropy. Applications will be available for this award through e-mail. Though this is an invite-only event (due to funding), RPI’s IFC certainly hopes that the rest of RPI’s student and administrative populations will have a sense of pride in the efforts put forth by our fraternities to help make a difference in the world.
