"Woohoo!" shouted Andrew Kerr as his name was announced and he boarded the stage at Mother’s in the Rensselaer Union on Saturday. He remained at least this enthusiastic throughout his performance.

Kerr is known for folk rock with a comedic twist. Indeed, many of his songs brought chuckles out of the audience, including one about how excited he was when he mistakenly received fan mail for Britney Spears.

His comedic style comes from the fact that he began his career doing stand-up comedy in college and went from there. He now has two albums out. Kerr wrote the songs on his new album, Ain’t It Strange, about his experiences in San Francisco, his current home.

Not only was Kerr vivacious, but he was also friendly. He talked to the audience as if he had known them for years. Kerr is a good storyteller, and this quality made his songs seem very realistic and added to the humor.

Mother’s gave Kerr’s performance a warm quality. Red cloths on the square tables and a lit candle to adorn each, hardwood floors, and a stage backdrop of a patchwork quilt made for a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

If you are ever in the need of a good laugh, catch Kerr on tour and you will not be disappointed.

Also, check out the upcoming shows at Mother’s. This Friday The McKrells, an Irish band whose music has Celtic and bluegrass roots, comes to Mother’s. They are supposed to be very entertaining, so go see them. RPI students get in free with an ID.
