Take advantage of the Student Union

Posted 08-31-2005 at 1:48PM

Because it does not matter if you come from a small town in Oklahoma, a towering metropolis, or a cattle ranch in India, after several weeks at Rensselaer you will have trouble believing how big and diverse the world is, and have even more trouble believing how we fit it all in one building.

Because through the continuous buzz of students and faculty that fill our seats until the late hours of the night, you can almost see the theories and practices that define a world-class education in science and technology take form before you.

Because if you can dream it, together with the Union, we can build it.

Because the minute you walk into the McNeil Room with its ceilings ascending above the upper balcony with every student’s nation adorned between the floors, you will know this is the center of campus.

Because we have a talented, and deeply committed staff that are here for the sole purpose of making your interests a reality.

Because if you are to be the author of your own life, the Union can be your publisher, by making every set and plot imaginable available at your fingertips.

Because it does not matter where you came from, for the Union will help you on your way to where you are going.

Because you do not want to realize during your procession for commencement, that you have truly missed out by not taking your due place within the Union.

Because Rick Hartt, the Director of the Union, always has a line at his door, yet it is the only office that you never need an appointment.

Maybe it will be the first performance you see in the McNeil Room, or at your first Players production, or maybe it will be after you have climbed your first mountain with the Outing Club, but at some point it will hit you, this is not your typical college union. There is something inherently different about the Rensselaer Union than any other department on campus, maybe you have realized it, maybe you haven’t, but it is simply because it is your Union. It is time to take advantage of it. Thursday, 6-9 pm, Houston Field House.

There are three openings on the Rensselaer Union Executive Board: Class of 2009 Representative and two Graduate Representatives. Applications are aviable in the Union Admin Office. Interviews to be held the following week. Any questions contact pu@rpi.edu.
