The RPI Cycling team competed in two road races this past week. On Sunday, April 24, the group traveled to Norwich, Vt., to compete at L’Enfer Du Nord, and on Saturday, April 30, the team participated in the Eastern Regional, hosted by the University of New Hampshire.

At the Vermont road race, Aaron Fitts placed 15th out of 47 in the Category B event, scoring one point for RPI. In the Category D race, Jake Rankinen, Robert Thomas, Silas Laudon, and Ethan Atkins finished fifth, 13th, 16th, and 22nd, respectively. Rankinen’s fifth place finish added five points to RPI’s team total. On the women’s side, Emily Meacham came in 24th out of 35 in the Category B contest.

At the Eastern Regional, Rankinen and Fitts led the way for RPI, which finished 30th place overall. Rankinen scored 40 points after finishing first in a field of 83 in the men’s D road race. Fitts chipped in another two points for coming in 15th out of 61 in the men’s B event.

Volleyball victorious at Cortland

On April 23-24, the RPI men’s and women’s volleyball teams took part in a tournament at SUNY Cortland.

The men, led by the play of co-captain Pat Conway and Jeremiah Harmsen, won the men’s B gold division. The squad dominated their opponents in the final, winning 25-14 in straight games for the victory.

The men will now set their sights on Denver, Colo., where they’ll travel to on June 1 to compete in the 2005 USA Volleyball Adult Open Championship.

The women’s squad also enjoyed success in Cortland, winning the women’s B silver division in a hotly-contested final by the scores of 26-24 and 27-25.

Women’s crew headed to nationals

After competing in the New York State Collegiate Championship this past weekend, the RPI women’s crew team qualified for the ECAC National Invitational Championship.
