Interfraternity Council Take pride in greek experiences
Posted 03-23-2005 at 2:18PM
Dan Dolinskas Interfraternity Council Vice President for Public Relations Pride is one of the seven deadly sins, and, in excess, it can be a bad thing. It is OK, however, to be proud once in a while. For all of you who are involved in greek life, you should be proud of that fact. Don’t be afraid to let others know that you’re a member of a fraternity or sorority. When you wear your letters, take pride in them. Know that by wearing those letters, you’re connected to all your brothers or sisters all over the world.
Take pride in the things that your house has accomplished. If someone asks you, “Hey man, what’d you do this weekend?” instead of just the usual shrug and “Uhhh, nothing much,” proudly say, “Well my brothers and I cleaned up this park.” Or, “Through our sorority, we raised some money for our charity.” Spread the word to those not involved in greek life about all the positive things that your fraternity or sorority does.
Speaking of wearing letters, I was thinking of trying to instate a campus wide “Letter Day.” Now I know many houses already have a set day of the week when all their members wear letters, but I think it would show greek unity among all the houses if the whole greek community could have a set day too. I was thinking that Thursdays would be a good day for us all to wear our letters, but if you have a better day in mind, come to the IFC general council meeting tonight in DCC 337 at 10 pm and share your opinion. | |
