Irony. That’s what happened last week. The words that appeared in this column last week were a compilation of crap. That’s right, I said nothing. I did mention that none of the readers of The Poly ever seem to e-mail me if I pose a question, that I rarely hear feedback from my constituents. Well, here is where the irony comes into play, last week I heard about my article from more people than ever before. If you add up all of the feedback I have gotten on all of the articles I have ever written, it still would not be as much as I heard this past week. All over nothing.
Is it also irony that sometimes when you are having the most fun, you can upset the most number of people? "It is like rain, on your wedding day . . . or a free ride when you’ve already paid ... Isn’t it ironic?"
Moving on to this coming week’s happenings. I previously wrote in this column to watch out for more things going on in the Union, that I was going to make life at RPI better for students, more enjoyable. Why not start off with the biggest event that January has to offer? No, not the inauguration of George W., the Superbowl! This Sunday we will be able to witness the New York Giants get pummeled by the Ravens of Baltimore. Not only will you be able to watch this feat, you will be able to watch it in near lifesize in the Union. The McNeil Room will become the 50-yard line in Tampa if only for a night.
For those of you who are 21, you will also be able to come enjoy the game in the Clubhouse Pub. Be sure to stop into the Pub earlier in this week if you are interested though, seating is limited. Bring $5 with you to get your ticket, which includes food at halftime. You know I will be there.
After last week’s barrage of responses about my article, I thought I would again extend the request for input on how to make our new Union look more like a student union. If you have any ideas about things you would like to see in the building itself to make it more to your liking, let me know. I can always be reached by email at pu@rpi.edu. I truly am looking for any and all ideas that we can come up with. It’s time for us to put our stamp on the building, make it what we want, not what the architects drew up. So let’s see some e-mail.
Finally, I wanted to thank Mary Kate Williams, the new ed-op editor for The Poly. I understand that it is her doing in bringing back the "Poly Snapshots." Some of the most humorous quotes to come from this school were due to this section. Mary Kate, thank you.
