Carol Scalice’s 5.46 meter leap of faith earned her the victory in the long jump for the third straight week, leading the Rensselaer women’s track and field squad at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, N.H, this weekend. Scalice, who also finished ninth in the 200-meter race, set a new RPI school record in the long jump and provisionally qualified for the NCAA national meet en route to being named Liberty League Field Performer of the Week. Jen Dias had a strong meet taking second in the 500-meter, Sue Madden placed third in the shot put, and Marion Albert took fifth in the 400-meter dash. Albert received the Liberty League Rookie of the Week honor. The women’s 4x400 relay team finished fourth for RPI.

Joe Otto again led the men’s track and field squad winning the 800-meter race in 1:54.11. Sophomore Kemar Brown had his first big meet of the year taking third and fourth in the 60-meter sprint and the 200-meter dash, respectively. The men’s 4x400 team took second while Jason Langley was runner-up in the pole vault. Greg Mariano finished third in the 3000-meter race. Otto earned Liberty League Co-Track Performer of the Week, Langley was named Co-Field Performer of the Week and freshman Andrew Coye received the Rookie of the Week honors.

Freakout Ice House tickets still on sale

Tickets to the annual Big Red Freakout! Ice House at the Heffner Alumni House are still on sale for all RPI fans. The event includes a buffet dinner prior to the 28th annual Big Red Freakout! and free shuttle service to and from the game. After the game, against ECAC foe Brown, fans can join the 1985 National Championship team, the 1995 ECAC Championship squad, and the current Engineers. The game will also be nationally televised on College Sports Television, a station carried locally on Time Warner Digital Cable, channel 663, and DirecTV.

Ex-Engineer wins Super Bowl Ring
