Panhellenic elections were held Monday, November 22 for a new executive board. Karen Gollins of Alpha Phi is the new president and Maria Vallejo of Alpha Gamma Delta was named vice president executive. Tina Blatsos of Alpha Phi was elected assistant vice president of Recruitment as Amy Manocchi will move up to vice president of recruitment. Alpha Gamma Delta’s Kandis Hoyt is the new vice president judiciary and Stephanie Tanous of Pi Beta Phi is the public relations chair. Finally, Pi Beta Phi’s Kate Phillips was elected the women’s programming chair. The outgoing executive board is confident in these women and is looking forward to their accomplishments next year.

The Panhellenic Council is busy preparing its submissions for the Northeast Greek Leadership Association awards. The council hopes to win one of the Programming Excellence Awards for outstanding achievement in one of ten categories. Last year Rensselaer’s Panhellenic won the award for Council Management.

This year the council will also be presenting an application for the prestigious Gamma Phi Beta College Panhellenic Award, which honors “successful College Panhellenic programs which promote a positive greek image to the faculty/administration, the campus and the community.” The winner of the award receives at $250 grant and plaque at the regional conference. With our programming over the past year, especially fundraisers such as the date auction last semester to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeastern New York, the council hopes to be a viable candidate for this award.

On Tuesday, November 9, the Panhellenic Council held its annual Lip Sync, in which many acts were entered. They were all highly entertaining, especially the winners of the contest: Delta Tau Delta. Over $1,000 was raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeastern New York, putting us extremely close to our goal of $6,000. The council has also been busy filling orders for homemade letters. The proceeds from this endeavor and possibly a change drive should make us reach our goal.

In community service news, the council will be partnering with the Health Center on December 1 to promote AIDS awareness by manning the AIDS quilt and encouraging sorority members to attend the seminar that evening.
