USC, Oklahoma win, keep title hopes alive

(1) USC 28, Oregon State 20—The Trojans overcame a 13 point deficit and foggy conditions to defeat the upset-minded Beavers. After fumbling a punt in the first quarter that led to an Oregon State field goal, senior running back Reggie Bush returned a punt 65 yards to give USC the lead for good in the fourth quarter.

(2) Oklahoma 42, (22) Texas A&M 35—Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jason White passed for 292 yards and five touchdowns, helping the Sooners overcome an early 14 point deficit. Oklahoma freshman Adrian Peterson recorded his ninth straight 100-yard rushing game.

(4) Wisconsin 38, Minnesota 14—The Badgers ran out to a 31-0 first half, en route to regaining the Paul Bunyan’s Axe Trophy from the Gophers. Quarterback John Stucco passed for a career-high 297 yards and running back Anthony Davis ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns to lead Wisconsin.

(5) Georgia 62, Kentucky 17—Bulldog quarterback David Greene broke three records in the blowout victory over the Wildcats. Greene set the NCAA Division-I wins record with his 40th career win, set the Southeastern Conference consecutive passes without an interception record with 206 straight, and broke the school record for career touchdown passes with 68.

(6) California 28, Oregon 27—Wide receiver Geoff McArthur caught eight passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner early in the fourth quarter, as the Bears survived the Ducks upset bid. J.J. Arrington rushed for 188 yards and Aaron Rodgers passed for 275 yards to help Cal keep their BCS bowl game hopes alive.

(7) Texas 56, (19) Oklahoma State 35—The Longhorns were down 35-7 in the first half, but scored on seven straight drives to beat the Cowboys and keep their BCS hopes alive. Running back Cedric Benson, who had five rushing touchdowns, and quarterback Vince Young ran for 141 yards and 123 yards, respectively, to lead the Texas comeback.

(8) Utah 63, Colorado State 31—The Utes surpassed the 40-point mark for the seventh time this season and remained undefeated in the rout of the Rams. Quarterback Alex Smith passed for 291 yards and four touchdowns for Utah, who set a school record for points in a season with 412.

Clemson 24, (10) Miami 17—The Tiger defense stopped Brock Berlin and the Hurricane offense on fourth-and-goal from the 5-yard line to preserve the upset. Clemson, who were down 17-3 at halftime, were led by Charlie Whitehurst’s 258 yards passing, Reggie Merriweather’s 114 yards rushing, and Airese Currie’s 128 yards receiving.
