Independent Council Council looks for more input
Posted 11-10-2004 at 4:27PM
Gregory Frament 2006 Representative The Independent Council of RPI is a group of eleven students who meet weekly to represent the interest of independent students. Independents are simply students that are not in a social fraternity or sorority. Recently, the IC decided that there was a need for students to have a channel of communication to the council so that our constituent body could suggest what they wanted to see from us. In a similar fashion to the popular comment boxes at campus dining halls, we have placed drop boxes (made out of manila envelopes) around campus for students to put their comments, concerns, and ideas into.
With the input the IC gets from the comments, we can plan new events or modify old ones. This is the chance that students never seem to get when they participate in events that are designed by somebody else, so we are hoping that students will make their ideas heard. There is currently an envelope on the IC bulletin board on the third floor of the Student Union near the Student Government Suite. There will soon be one in the Commons and other places around campus. You can also e-mail your ideas to IC@union.rpi.edu, or just come to our weekly meetings at 9 pm Tuesdays in the Student Government Suite on the third floor of the Rensselaer Union.
In addition to generally representing the students, the IC also hosts a variety of fun events around campus. Keep an eye open for our Pool Tournament (featuring prizes and free food) in the spring, the Open Games Room night at the Student Union (free, free, free), a sponsored Sheer Idiocy show (free food! Seeing the trend?), and perhaps a hosted movie at UPAC Cinema. Come out and cash in on these cool events. | |
