It wouldn’t be the end of October without talking about the upcoming election. It’s been a very interesting election this year, even for a presidential election.
The country is polarized, and there are very few people that I have run into who don’t have a clear idea who they are voting for. You still have some time to educate yourself on the issues, especially on the lesser known candidates in your area. We all know who we want to be the next president, but do you know what your county board of freeholders even does, let alone what the different candidates stand for?
Hopefully, all of you have arranged for absentee ballots (or rides back home) and are planning on exercising your right to vote. I mailed my absentee ballot back last week; since you’re dealing with absentee ballots, you’re talking about the mail. The mail takes time, so if you haven’t already, mail your ballot today.
Next Monday, in the McNeil room, we will be celebrating Stephen van Rensselaer’s birthday. This is an important day here at RPI, and over the last few years the tradition of honoring Stephen van Rensselaer has begun to make a comeback. So join your fellow students and myself next Monday at lunch time in the McNeil Room in the Union for cake and a good time.
