The week before classes began was full of activity for both the Panhellenic Council and greeks in general. Freshman move-in was a success; greeks provided a valuable service to students and parents by reducing a four-hour process down to 20 minutes. This effort allowed freshmen to get acquainted with the greek community in a positive way. The Capital News 9 camera crew was on hand to cover the event and inform the local community. Reporter Bridgette Blythe’s interview with the Panhellenic Council aired on News 9 last Tuesday and is now on the channel’s website.

The Council, along with Interfraternity Council, also sponsored the freshman three-on-three basketball tournament and the tug of war at the Freshman Olympics. In addition, Navigating the Social Scene, a freshman orientation event, was presented by the Student Health Center and both greek councils. This fall’s recruitment counselors made themselves visible during this event to the freshmen as a resource for unbiased advice on joining a sorority. The RCs can be identified by maroon shirts with “Recruitment Counselor” written on them; they will not be wearing their house letters during recruitment because it is important for them to remain unaffiliated.

As part of the recruitment process, Panhellenic’s vice president of recruitment and assistant vice president of recruitment have been giving all the houses seminars so all sisters will know the rules of recruiting.

This week is Panhellenic Recruitment Week, in which all the houses will be promoting membership in greek organizations in general—not their individual chapters. There are activities for interested students including water wars on Wednesday, a snack table at the activities fair on Thursday, and a concert and BBQ on Friday. House recruitment begins on September 7.
