Matthew Newman
Independent Council President

The close of Grand Marshal Week marks a new beginning for the Independent Council. New membership brings new ideas and concerns about campus. I’d like to congratulate all the new members and officers of the Independent Council in your new positions and I wish all of you luck in the coming term.

The IC has course surveys from last semester tallied and ready for publishing. We are planning to get them on our webpage as soon as possible. We have opened the doors of communication with the greek community, having both an Interfraternity Council and a Panhellenic Council representative at each of our meetings. Beginning next semester there will be an IC member appointed to attend both of their meetings. The Panhellenic Council and Independent Council will be working on a community service project beginning next semester to aid the soup kitchen in downtown Troy. This is a great way for independents and greeks to work together and give back to this community. If this is a project that will interest you, come to our meetings to find out more.

On April 30, the Independent Council will be sponsoring Sheer Idiocy’s End of the Year Show in Mother’s Wine Emporium. We’ll be there to answer questions and provide food for all. Stop by for Sheer Idiocy; stay for the free food.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Independent Council, e-mail us at ic@union.rpi.edu or stop by one of our meetings. We hold meetings weekly at 9 pm on Tuesdays in the Student Government Suite. We’re always looking for more interest, ideas, and concerns from independent students.
