Fraternities face trying times

Interfraternity Council Vice President for Public Relations

The past couple weeks have instigated a couple questions for greek life at Rensselaer. It is in these trying times for the fraternity system that we evaluate ourselves and ask, why do fraternities exist on our campus? Tonight, April 14 there will be a mandatory, emergency Interfraternity Council meeting in DCC 337 to address several issues within the community. Each chapter is asked to send only their chapter president.

The 12th Annual Awards of Excellence luncheon will be taking place on Saturday, April 24. This year, the Office of Greek Life has received the largest number of applications since the inception of the awards. Stay tuned for the results!

I would like to leave you this week with a quote from the 1937 edition of the Rensselaer Transit: “It is natural for a man to make close friends among those whose tastes, abilities, habits and activities he approves. This was the foundation upon which the first Greek letter fraternity was established and such are fraternities now, groups of men united for mutual aid and combined service.”
