Panhellenic Council Date Auction raises $3,000
Posted 03-31-2004 at 5:12PM
Danielle M. Decatur Rensselaer Panhellenic Association Panhellenic Council’s “I’ll Grant Your Wish” date auction, held this Monday, went extremely well. There were about forty groups auctioned off, and there was a great turnout of spectators as well. Funds raised from bidding and admission amounted to approximately $3,000! Two of the bids were as high as $180 and $220. The auction will definitely become an annual event due to the overwhelming response received. We have now passed the halfway point to our goal of $6,000, something that would not be possible without the support of the participants and attendees. Our next fundraiser will most likely be “Greek is Good” travel coffee mug sales.
As far as community outreach efforts, last Tuesday I met with Mayor Tutunjian, along with Donald Pendagast of the Interfraternity Council. The meeting was an informal luncheon and conversation was casual but productive. The mayor has a very positive attitude about the greek community at Rensselaer and the student body at large. He voiced desires to use students for more than just manual labor, and we discussed some broad areas of community service that will be explored in the future. These endeavors include work with the mayor’s website and other administrative projects where Rensselaer students could make a difference. The Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council are both excited about the prospects discussed with the mayor. We will follow up on these in the near future, beginning with the city council meeting this Thursday. | |
