Independent Council IFC liaison position made
Posted 03-24-2004 at 5:18PM
Matthew Newman Independent Council President The Independent Council has new and exciting plans. First, we are continuing our course surveys. Do you have any courses that you’d like to know more about? Immediately after GM Week, we will be determining which classes to survey. Send any ideas on courses our way. Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances, the IC course surveys will not be posted in The Poly before course registration. However, we have tabulated the results of the surveys and we will try to get the results on our webpage as soon as possible.
Secondly, we are planning events. On the Wednesday of GM Week, the IC will be sponsoring an open games room night in the Union. Bowling, ping pong, and pool will be free to any student who wants to come starting at 7 pm. We will also be sponsoring a Sheer Idiocy show towards the end of the semester, providing refreshments and information while the Idiots put on an always fun show. Thirdly, we are beginning to expand our communication with the Intrafraternity Council. There will be a new position opening after GM Week on the IC of IC/IFC liaison. This new position will attend both IC and IFC meetings helping to spread ideas and news between the two bodies. This can vastly improve our relationship and will motivate the two bodies to work together, perhaps co-sponsoring events. I’d like to publicly extend an invitation to the Panhellenic Council to attend our meetings so that we can further improve the IC’s relations with the greek system.
GM Week is rapidly approaching. This makes for a great opportunity to get involved in student government, including the IC. The Independent Council is a student government body which represents independents, or all students who choose not to join a social fraternity or sorority. The IC exists to hear the concerns of these students and to support them. Our primary task is to make sure independent students, a group numbering over 70 percent of the total campus population, are represented properly in student government through projects, the Senate, and the Rules and Elections Committee. Does the Independent Council interest you? If so, feel free to e-mail me at ic@union.rpi.edu for more information or check the RNE webpage at http://elections.union.rpi.edu. | |
