Student elections arriving quickly

Suzanne Peluso
President of the Union

Welcome back everyone! I hope that you enjoyed your Spring Break and took some time to relax. Hopefully we will see the start of warmer weather here and it will continue right through the semester. While most of us have either traveled to a Spring Break destination or left to visit home, many of our spring athletic teams have traveled together and dedicated the week to their spring training.

Many teams will have their home openers over the next couple weeks, including baseball, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and track and field. This week, women’s lacrosse will compete on Thursday at 4 pm, against Hartwick. If you have a chance, cheer on the women’s team as they compete in their first home game on Harkness Field.

GM Week is approaching and it will be a great week of activities and student involvement. You can view the current schedule for the week at http://gmweek.union.rpi.edu/schedule.html. GM Week revolves around student government elections, in which you can run for Grand Marshal, President of the Union, class president, class vice president, class representative, Independent Council representative, or senator. For more information on running for a position, check out the Rules and Elections webpage at http://elections.union.rpi.edu/ for specific details: Also, notice that if you plan to run for an office, you should attend a Candidate Information Meeting, which are scheduled a few times in the next week. If any students running for a position would like to speak to me, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

The semester is quickly passing by, which also means that my elected term as President of the Union is coming to a close. The Union Executive Board will be working very hard in the next few weeks to help wrap up current items before the year ends. We will not have a meeting this Thursday, as most of us will be attending the Guster concert, but we will resume our regular business meetings next Thursday.
