This spring, the new IFC Executive Board has many new initiatives planned for greeks, and for campus. They plan to take a much more active role in neighborhood and campus relations. Specifically, the immediate neighbors of fraternity and sorority houses and campus independents are groups to which the IFC wishes to reach out.
The Social Committee will be working on Greek Three Day, which will be held March 26-28. Currently, a concert, various philanthropy events, and a block party are being scheduled. An end of the year event is also being planned. This year, greeks will be much more involved in homecoming, as in the past it has not been as large or important an event as it should be.
The Philanthropy Committee is working with the Health Center for a student health fair, and will be helping out the V-Day committee again this year with postering and ushering efforts. A larger philanthropy event is being examined for the end of the semester.
The Public Relations Committee has met with the Troy City Council, the mayor, representatives from local newspapers and television crews, and representatives from some of the neighborhood associations. The committee plans on meeting with the rest of the Neighborhood Associations, the Faculty Senate, campus groups, and the immediate neighbors of fraternity and sorority houses to open lines of communication that were once closed.
The Rush Committee will be putting together ideas and planning a much more organized and unified fall rush. They may change the structure of rush in keeping with successful greek systems on other campuses.
The IFC has gotten a tremendous start so far this semester. With the help of both greeks and independents, we hope to make this semester great for the RPI campus and for Troy.
