I hope your week is off to a great start. There is not too much going on, except that classes are beginning to speed up and the first round of exams will be approaching. Spring break is just a few weeks away, with GM Week to follow soon after. The Spring Semester always includes a good amount of entertainment and hopefully some sunny weather.
Many of you may have noticed the new Union events calendar that has been hung in the Rathskellar level of the Rensselaer Union. The Events Marketing Committee of the Union has put a lot of time into designing a marketing tool that would display all Union sponsored events in one location. The committee members even took a trip to another local college to see how they market events around their Union. Bringing back a few ideas, they decided to develop a large poster that would be hand drawn each month. This colorful calendar is hanging on the wall directly across from Father’s and the Post Office. It has been developed by students and is a great way to increase attendance at events.
One event that I suggest you attend is the RPI Players’ “An Evening of Performance”. This production will be held both nights this weekend, February 13 and 14, at 8 pm. The performances include Hush Little Celia, Don’t Say a Word, A Stye of the Eye, and Black Comedy.
Everyone should be looking forward to our three day weekend, in celebration of President’s Day. In addition, Valentine’s Day will be coming up, so remember to do something nice for all the family and friends you care about. There is a great website for the Albany area about “stuff to do in the region” http://www.albany2go.com. The site includes links to local bands, sporting events, and movie listings. If you are looking for a perfect place to go out to dinner, you can search for your favorite type of restaurant. There is also a section on “Fresh Dates” to give you some ideas for Valentine’s Day. If you want to buy someone excellent chocolate, stop by Krause’s Chocolates on Central Avenue in Albany. If you want to get away over the long weekend, travel up north to the Adirondacks where you can enjoy the winter season by skiing, ice skating, or even walking through some trails. Whatever you decide, try to unwind a little and take a break from school!
