Matthew Newman
Independent Council President

Welcome back to a new semester, full of new opportunities and, of course, new classes. With this in mind, the Independent Council would like to invite any and all students to our annual pool tournament, being held today, January 21. Sign-up begins at 6:30 pm with matches beginning as soon as 7 pm. There will be prizes for the top three entrants and food for all attendees. The entry fee is only $3, which is the same price as an hour worth of pool. Last year we had 16 students attend and it was a lot of fun. We hope to increase those numbers today and would like to turn the IC Pool Tournament into a new, yearly event. Pictures from last years tournament can be seen on our webpage at http://independent. union.rpi.edu.

The IC strives to sponsor events on campus for the independent community and for the student body in general. In the past, the IC has sponsored events with Sheer Idiocy and on January 31, we will be sponsoring the UPAC Cinema showing of the movie, The Lost Boys. As a body set forth to represent the independent students on this campus, we would like to help make the lives of these students better through events and projects, such as our course surveys.

In regards to our course surveys, the results from the Spring 2003 course surveys will soon be in the pages of The Poly. Last semester’s surveys are in the process of being tallied now. We hope to publish the results of these surveys before class registration at the end of this semester. All results published in The Poly will also be added to our webpage, along with addition data from some classes that we did not release in The Poly.
