Derby Dining hours in Union extended
Posted 11-19-2003 at 3:28PM
Suzanne Peluso President of the Union This past weekend, I attended a conference for the Association of College Unions International. It was interesting to compare our Student Union’s operations to those of other participating schools. I was able to realize that Rensselaer has a truly unique structure and organization to its Union procedures. As students, we are privileged to have so much involvement with what occurs amongst student life. I traveled to the conference with two other students, our Grand Marshal and another student interested in College Bowl. In addition, our activities coordinator, Cameron McLean, gave a presentation on risk management associated with programming events. Our school was represented well at the conference, and we went home with second place in a case study presentation.
I’d like to acknowledge our food services within the Union for doing a great job to accommodate student needs. This department has implemented a few changes that I find are very significant. To begin, they have taken into consideration that several students finish classes just before 2 pm and attempt to hurry to the Union in order to catch a hot lunch from the McNeil Room. Unfortunately, food service closed at 2 pm and several students remained frustrated. Therefore, we have extended the McNeil Room hours to 2:30 pm, and hope that many are able to take advantage of this. Since the Starbucks station opens at 8 am, it is now serving bagels and muffins. To add to this breakfast selection, you will also be able to order egg sandwiches until 11 am. This is a great addition to the Union’s food services because we now offer a variety for breakfast.
On the Rathskeller level, you will find that cyberwraps are available until 8 pm, as opposed to 7 pm. In addition, you may order any of our sandwiches as wraps or on an assortment of breads. Look out for further chicken selections in the Rathskeller—ideas of a new chicken sandwich, chicken tenderloins, and popcorn chicken have been discussed, and are ready to be implemented shortly.
It’s a tough time of the year, while we begin to reach the end of the semester. I’d like to wish everyone good luck, and enjoy your Thanksgiving break as much as you can. | |
